I'm in Alaska !

Little Beck had a great flight from Portland to Anchorage. He was asleep before take-off, and awoke in time to work in a short "nurse" during touch-down! A good flight for Beck. We had a great drive to Homer, and we spent the last few days relaxing around the house, enjoying the view of the ocean, and planning our trip across the bay. We tried apple sauce today, and besides for the intial grimmace, he ate up 1/2 a jar in record time. Tomorrow we're going for our first boat ride in the ocean, and Grandpa Curt will most likely try to work a brief bit of fishing in....... More in a few days, once we've returned from across Kachemak Bay.

Down by the tracks

We had another beautiful night, so we went down by the river and watched the sunset. We went with the neighbors and their two year old son, Anik, who enjoyed throwing rocks into the river. Beck kicked and waved his arms while Anik threw rocks, which I think meant he wanted to take part in rock throwing...... not sure, however.

Hot days - kickin' it at the pool!

Hot, hot, hot. Nearly 90 degrees here. Too hot for us soft coastal folk. We're reusing a pool that my sister, Jennifer gave us. Beck thinks it's just the thing for these hot days. Splish, splash, splish, he spent about an hour combined the past few days enjoying time in the pool.

Big boys use spoons!

Sorry we've been so bad about adding to our online journal. I don't know where the time goes, but we've been very busy. Beck is getting pretty adept at using a spoon, and is even beginning to chew on all chewable areas of a tippy cup. Big boy, big boy! He's eaten peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, carrots and oatmeal to this point. He likes all of them except green beans.

Does my mom feed me ?

Quite often when we are "out and about", as we often are, people comment "Well, that baby sure doesn't miss a meal." And actually, as shown in the photo above, Jen feeds and feeds and feeds Beck 'till he can hardly sit up. Just look at his expression: Poor guy. Imagine if he was lactose intolerant. If you look at the photo closely, I think Beck is telling me that he's tired of having his picture taken already. You wouldn't think a 6 month old baby could pick up sign language so quickly........................

I love hair !

As the post suggest, Beck has become a big fan of pulling hair. I guess if I didn't have a girlishly long mane it wouldn't be an issue. I'm enjoying the process of seeing him experiencing the world: everything goes straight into the mouth. If any of you know the reason why, I'd like to know. Beck and I went to Cannon Beach this afternoon on a wedding appointment, and he loved watching and listening to the waves. A few more months when he isn't putting everything into his mouth, and it will be fun to let him experience sand.

Watching the workers work

Beck watched the concrete go into the forms today, and gave me a great little smile partway through the process. He napped from 12:45 to nearly 4:00, so I would imagine he's in the middle of a growth spurt. He has been giving mom longer and longer periods of uninterupted sleep during the night. The Johnny-Jump-Up continues to be a big hit. He's getting better and better at the required dexterity......

Beck's first day of school

Beck had a little visit to first grade today, as I was taking pictures of Jen's students for Father's Day gifts. During sharing, Beck let loose with all his tricks, to the delight of Mrs. Olson's class: sitting up, kicking his legs while on his back, and smiling. While he may not be ahead of the game on these developments, we think he's a pretty cute little guy.

Dinner Time

Nothing terribly exciting today. We're having evening sun the last few days, which has given us beautiful soft-lit sunsets. Beck is getting more hair, which is perfectly white, with a nice swirl on the back of his head. Not the most exciting photo, but I thought I'd share a glimpse of our daily life. The old couch is pretty neat that Jenn is sitting on, too. Last thought: note the links. We're now at the point that we need a blog from the Hawaiian Geesey's and the Oregon Jones's's. (I have no idea how to punctuate a plural Jones.........)

The bike trailer

We recently purchased a bike trailer to use with Beck. We can cram Beck, jackets, mail, packages, diaper bags, uncooked pizzas, cameras and more into the trailer, and still have room. His car seat straps in, so it is very easy to get him in, and carry him in town. We are able to leave our house, and make it all the way to town without having to ride in traffic. Beck likes to look out the side windows, but he generally falls asleep on the way to / from town. I guess he's just got a relaxed lifestyle.

A trip down Seaside

Beck and I went down the coast today to Seaside to submit our materials list for our addition. The flooring has officially been ordered, and excavation starts Monday, weather permitting, so we're actually starting the building process. At Seaside, we walked the Promenade with what seemed to be a whole Junior High. I guess a school had a field-trip to Seaside..... Not sure what academic objective there was, but there they were. Anyway, Beck was great. He's becoming very interested in the world around him, and enjoys busy stores and bright lights.
